Leela Yoga founder, Marlene Boyette is interviewed by journalist Crystal Haynes, as a panelist on the ground breaking show, Basic Black. Joined by medical and psychology professionals, Marlene engages in conversation around the impacts of stress on the Black community, and the various accessible holistic approaches that can be taken to begin identifying and healing trauma and stress.
Massachusetts Black Lawmakers Roundtable
In January 2023 Marlene joined Black lawmakers from across the state for their quarterly meeting / debriefing. Marlene offered a Trauma-Informed guided meditation in support of the emotional and mental well-being of those largely responsible for the care and support of the communities that they each serve.
Getaway House “100 Nights of Rest / Year of Rest” Selects and Features Marlene Boyette
During the summer of 2020, Getaway House urged it’s audience to nominate people of color who they felt were doing courageous work within their communities as Activists for Change.
Getaway House would go on to select 100 of the nominated people to receive a night of rest at one of their many outposts located across the country.
As one of the 100 chosen, Marlene was invited to enjoy a Getaway experience as part of “100 Nights of Rest / Year of Rest”.

Love Your Magic Day Retreat for Girls of Color
Love Your Magic is an organization doing incredible work to support the emotional well being of Black and Brown girls within and outside of the Boston area.
Marlene has partnered with this organization countless times, offering yoga and mindfulness practices that focus on empowering girls of color. These images where taken during LYM’s most recent day retreat, January 2023.
Sound artist’s Skooby Laposky and Marlene Boyette co-create “ROOTED VOL. 1”
Using their collaborative ROOTED yoga and sounded meditation event held at MIT’s Open Space in Cambridge, MA as inspiration, Skooby sonifies and layers sounds created by various tropical plants housed within the MIT space over Marlene Boyette’s later recorded singing bowl meditation. The result is dreamy, relaxing and beautiful. Listen to ROOTED: VOL. 1 below, which is also currently available on cassette tape, in honor of the “mixtape” theme.
